Track Synopsis:

There are a lot of new and exciting solutions, both available and emerging, in the Business Intelligence space that are changing how we visualize and analyze information. The TAO (Totally Awesome Offerings) of Business Intelligence will cover a wide range of new technology and product offerings that can help you enhance and get more benefit out of your existing BusinessObjects deployment.

TAO (pronounced Dao) is known as the way or the path to enlightenment. The Totally Awesome Offerings presented in this track will help show you a new vision of Business Intelligence that may take you on a new and enlightened path.

The format for each session in this track will be a dynamic presentation, followed by a live demonstration, and closing with an interactive discussion.

TAO Topics

2012 BI Mobile Landscape – What’s Real?    As the landscape for mobile business intelligence solutions for SAP BusinessObjects users’ changes rapidly, more companies are moving from a “toe in the water” stage to actually “paddling in the water with both feet.”

It is hard to believe the iPad has only been around for 2 years and it was only a year ago that Xcelsius dashboards were being shown on iPads and iPhones for the first time. There are many choices of solutions.  Some leverage existing investments in BusinessObjects infrastructure and, while others require completely new design and development. Some use streaming technology and render content on the mobile device without changes, and some are developed natively for the mobile device; taking full advantage of the device technology and integrating seamlessly with other native mobile applications.

This session, which will be delivered 100% from an iPad, cuts through the marketing hype and shows the different mobile BI solution choices that are real and work with SAP BusinessObjects in action, so you can compare them side by side.

Xcelsius Dashboards on iOS and Android -  It is possible to deploy an existing Xcelsius Dashboard to an iPad or Android Tablet as a Native Application. The Application once installed will operate just like any other installed App and can even function fully off-line.

This session will explore how two options that are in use today work and discuss the pros and cons of each approach.

The Future of Dashboards – HTML5?   The buzz around HTML5 cannot be ignored but can this technology be used today to develop BI Dashboards?  This session will explore what HTML5 is and look at some new technology that can help to harness the power of the ‘open web’ so we can use it to our advantage.

New Ways to Manage Your BO XI Security and Backups  -  As the size and complexity of many BusinessObjects deployments grow, so do the needs for both user access and security.  BusinessObjects Administrators find their time constrained as they deal with an increasing number of  access rights and backup/recovery issues  - in addition to all their other tasks. The tools and functions within the Central Management Console are limited, causing more organizations to look for alternative tools or to build their own.

This session will show one of the most popular tools in use today for managing and auditing BusinessObjects security, automating logical backup and recovery of universes and reports and providing a wealth of other  critical administration functions;  so simply and effectively that it can be delegated to other staff in the organization.  A live demonstration of the tools will be include,  along with demonstrating how multiple BusinessObjects environments can be managed and compared from a single console.

Who Did That?  Auditing and Impact Analysis in BusinessObjects  - Auditing is a critical function in any BusinessObjects environment – not just to identify potential security risks or violations but also to track what is happening in your deployment.   This allows you to determine who your heaviest users are, what are your most frequently used items and tune your system accordingly. In addition, you want an easy way to identify the impact on your universes and reports when a change is made in a database you are using.

In this session, you will learn how to see who is doing what and what is being done in your BusinessObjects environment. This will include how you can detect unused objects and dormant users and how you can explore and analyze your SAP BOE metadata and Perform impact analysis (the downstream and upstream effect of any universe or SQL change).

Next Generation Search Based BI Query Tool: Exploration Views – As more organizations look for better ways to engage casual users in real business intelligence rather than just viewing reports, the search based query tool SAP BusinessObjects Explorer has been one solution to help bring this about.  The new version, known as Exploration Views, further enhances the capabilities  empowering  self-serve data discovery on the web or on mobile with an improved user interface and more functionality.  Casual users can now create their own compositions of multiple Explorer visualizations (Exploration Views) and time and geography awareness have been added as new semantic types for these dimensions. This session will look at the new Exploration Views solution and demonstrate many of its key features.

Xcelsius Dashboards 4.0 and Beyond – Xcelsius Dashboards are most widely used visual interface in BusinessObjects deployments today. Their compelling animations, dynamic visualization and “What if?” scenarios  make Xcelsius the perfect way to visualize business intelligence. The new 4.0 version brings powerful new functionality.  A newly delivered Flex4 offering with improved performance and access to the semantic layer from the Designer enables less requirement on the Excel model and more functionality and integration with the rest of the BusinessObjects suite.  There are also new components, like the Waterfall chart, and enhancements to others, like alerts, now available in combination chart with multiple series.  This session will take you on a tour of the new Xcelsius Dashboards 4.0 and demonstrate many of these new capabilities.

Improving the Quality and Integrity of Your BI Data -  One of the implied assumptions in any BI project is that there is Trust in the data. Take any real life implementation of any BI project and at some level there is usually a trust issue with the available data. Too much time is spent by both IT and users checking for errors or validating the data. These actions are usually neither coordinated nor structured, so whenever there is a problem this often leads to finger pointing and blaming before the problem is actually fixed. Moving beyond Quality and Integrity there must be a better way to build and manage trust in the data and avoid conflict.

Join us for an enlightening session to discuss the resource drain of this effort and how this can be managed in a much more efficient way. Learn how to highlight potential issues, automate the investigation and take pro-active actions to foster trust in the data.

Location Intelligence in BI Apps -  Learn how location intelligence is helping organizations analyze business data in new ways to help drive additional value from business intelligence.  As interactive mapping technologies like Google Maps become more pervasive within the enterprise, you will need to know the business cases and opportunities that are driving a new wave of location intelligence demands for data visualization and discovery. In this session, you will learn how to identify, prioritize and choose the right location intelligence applications within your organization using real world examples and experiences. From browser based operational analysis to real-time mobile visualization, you will learn how to couple common location intelligence scenarios for your BI initiative.
